Early April Update
about 9 years ago – Sun, Apr 12, 2015 at 06:40:20 PM

Hey everyone, just an update on current status of each item.

Art - We're about 80% done between three artists (including myself). Everything's looking good to have all of it done before end of the month.

Edits - Mark is in the midst of the big edit, just waiting to get it back to make any edits and add a couple of small passages I've decided to add.

Add ons - I'm in the midst of finishing the unit card design, it's pretty snazzy. The map is almost done! See the pic below. I'll be working on the ability cards this week and hopefully get those ready to put up on drive thru. Finally, one minor change to the unit cards - I'm going to splurge for some alternate printing so that a few of each set have unit info on one side and an external pressure clock on the other. That way you can easily track your external clocks in a nice dry erasable form.

The Guide to the Myriad Peoples of the Orbs, or an Observational Journal of Wondrous and Strange Peoples, or My Wandering Life and Friends - this is the unit section of the book and I've brought on another writer to help out with it. Bree Sheldon! She's done some awesome stuff already! We're doing all kinds of weird and esoteric creatures from the mythology of tons of different cultures around the world. We're currently doing 118 creatures between us!

Furu-utsubo

Culture of Origin: Japanese

Physical Description

The furu-utsubo are clay pots of varying sizes and shapes that have come to life - or something resembling life. They have the ability to speak, move, and act, but they have no real thoughts of their own beyond a desire for true life. They are animated by magic users and are promised that if they serve a sentence, they will eventually be granted a soul. The pots tend to have an affinity for each other, and when not tasked with a job, they will gather together in groups, looking like a tidy collection. When they are given souls, they transform into humans until they die, when they return to dust.

Interesting Facts If a furu-utsubo is filled with a liquid, it will always refill when emptied.

Dzee-dzee-bon-da

Culture of Origin: Abenaki

Physical Description

The Dzee-dzee-bon-da are a race of creature so hideous as to defy description. They are so hideous that they are not able to look at their own reflection due to fright. There are no known Dzee-dzee-bon-da cities, even if they exist no creature could ever gaze upon such a hideous site.

Interesting Facts

Due to their particularly hideous nature the Dzee-dzee-bon-da have a very unique breeding strategy. Because they can not gaze upon each other the Dzee-dzee-bon-da have evolved a way to breed while unconscious. When a male and female cross paths if they are both hideous enough to make the other pass out their bodies will immediately begin to release and fertilize eggs.

And I suppose the big question, delivery! We're still looking at printing mid to late May. My hope is to have copies available by Origins. As long as everything is up to snuff we should be a go.

So here's some more art!

Nearing the End!
about 9 years ago – Wed, Mar 18, 2015 at 03:36:37 PM

Happy March folks!

Wanted to drop a line to let everyone know how things are progressing. I've just completed the final pre-edit draft of the rules a few minutes ago and I'm really happy! I'll be re-reading and sending off to my editor tonight or tomorrow. After that I'll start work on the Unit Bestiary that will be included in the book, I'll be doing both the writing and art for that section so I'm really excited to get to work on it!

Art wise we're moving full steam ahead. Here are a few of the pieces.

First the initial designs for the cover by Matt Rockefeller.

Jorge has also completed the two backer images.

Anyway, as of this writing we're on track for shipping in May. If anything changes you'll be the first folks to know!

Thanks again for all your support.

New Years Update
over 9 years ago – Sun, Jan 11, 2015 at 05:36:39 PM

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop a quick update on the state of the project. Currently I'm feverishly play testing the last beta, tweaking bits and expanding on sections. The biggest push right now is in module creation, I'm creating a sample module called CONTAGION that I'll be running at a local Pandemic Party here in Columbus, OH on the 21st of February. I'll be releasing it to the public once it is finished so that others can run it at other Pandemic Parties. This ends up working extremely well with my current workload because CONTAGION will also be the example module that I pull apart and talk about in the module creation chapter. That chapter will be the guide I end up giving to Sage, Adam and Jason to create the stretch goal modules. I'll also be creating a separate beginners module that isn't disease themed so don't worry!

Schedule wise it looks like shipping will probably get pushed to May, I hate being late but I feel like the extra month is worth it in order to get things right. No matter what I would like the book completed and shipped before Origins at the start of June so I've brought in a few more artists to complete some of the inset art and cover. So on top of art by Jorge Munoz, Chris Raymond, Claudia Cangini and myself there will also be interior art by Ashley Doza and the cover will be by Matt Rockefeller. I'm super excited to add both to the team!

As a big thanks for your support and a sorry we'll be a little late gift I'm going to be creating some ability cards that will make it easier for folks to create kobolds on the fly, especially now that the total number of abilities available has increased to a point where keeping them on the character sheet starts to become cumbersome. Files for print-at-home copies will be made available to all backers and on top of that I'll be putting them up on Drive Thru Cards and allowing all backers to buy up to 5 sets per book purchased at cost.

I'll also be scheduling a hangout soon where you can watch Juan Ochoa model kobolds and I'll answer any questions you have about the game. Expect an announcement of the date/time in the next few days.

Thanks!
